Swipe With Friends is like Tinder for finding movies and shows to watch

If you’ve ever tried to find the perfect movie or show to watch with your loved one at night, you know that sometimes it’s more of a challenge than it should be – often times you end up browsing lists of monitoring each other, then you settle for cable TV because of the lack of decision. This is where someone’s great idea comes in: what if there was an app for you and your partner where you swipe left and right over the movies that are on your streaming services and when you match it lets you know. It seems few people liked the idea so much that they created a service like this – their own Tinder takes for movies and TV shows. The best of the bunch is Reelgood’s Swipe With Friends.

You may have already heard of Reelgood, the platform that lets you browse and search all of your streaming services in one place. The company recently launched Swipe With Friends, a tool that promises to be “Tinder for Movies”. You can start by visiting the dedicated website – you don’t even need to register for the service or install any other app.

On the website, you can share a personalized link with your loved one or friends and then select your services from a list that includes virtually all the platforms available in the US and UK. To help you narrow down the initial selection, you can choose the content type (movies and / or TV shows), sort by popularity / IMDB score, select your preferred release year range, and more. Reelgood also boasts that its recommendation algorithm determines what you like and helps you find relevant headlines faster.

  • YOUR SERVICES ONLY: Reelgood’s filters cover over 150 streaming services in the US and UK, so you will only be able to match movies and shows that you can stream.
  • EASY AND FAST: no app to download, no account required. Just share a URL and you can swipe with friends in seconds.
  • GOOD SUGGESTIONS: Reelgood’s recommendation system combined with filters for IMDb score, genre, year of release and more will let you browse relevant titles, not just a random assortment.

Other services

There are other alternatives, but in my testing I did not find them comparable to Reelgood. Sunset is ideal if you don’t live in the US or UK (it also supports Canadian, German, and Indian streaming catalogs), but it doesn’t compare to Reelgood in terms of customization. It requires signing up with your email and name, only Netflix and Amazon Prime are supported, matching doesn’t seem to work well all the time, and sometimes the service loads the wrong posters which has led to more a bad sweep for me.

Left: Sleep. Middle: dinggo. Right: Film synchronization.

There’s also Movie Sync, dinggo, Flash Match, and Movit, but those services don’t seem as comprehensive as Reelgood’s. There is a smaller selection of streaming services, fewer filters, and less pleasant user interfaces, even though these alternatives offer native Android apps.

If you and your special someone are having a hard time finding the perfect movie or showing off the traditional way, Reelgood and the other scanning apps should make the process easier – there’s no real excuse to dismiss a suggestion you liked and that suits you.

And while we’re at Tinder clones reusing the dating app UX: why not add a “What are you hungry for right now?” option for Reelgood with local food types and delivery services to complement your movie night? It turns out that there is already another app for this.
