It is the end of an era: for twelve years, Anton Affentranger (61 years old) has been running the business of Implenia. He is replaced by André Wyss (51). He comes from Novartis, where he was Country Manager Switzerland and sat on the Executive Committee. Wyss oversaw all of Novartis' production operations, with 40,000 employees, or one-third of the total workforce.
Implenia remains true to its tradition: Wyss once again takes over a pharmaceutical manager from the construction giant. Affentranger came from Roche. Previously, he was with Swiss Bank Corporation (SBG) and Lombard Odier Private Bank.
Affentranger was really happy with Implenia. His record is impressive. He doubled the business turnover of two to four billion francs. In Europe, the group today employs 10 000 people
The attack of the grasshoppers repels
Implenia was born in 2005 from the merger of the Geneva-based construction company Zschocke with Basler Batigroup and is the largest construction company in Switzerland. Anton Affentranger, then president of Zschocke, is considered the architect of the mega-transaction.
The Affentranger marathon runner also has a long-term career. In 2009, the hedge fund Laxey had to discover it. Affentranger repulsed the locust attack – and gave up a big bounty. This earned him a lot of credit among the employees.

With Wyss, Affentranger is followed by a manager who looks a lot like the veteran of Implenia. Wyss is considered a Chrampfer, like a type of shirt. He got a chemical apprenticeship from Novartis management, always had the toughest jobs, had to reorganize production and cut costs.
At the end of March, Wyss left Novartis. He wants to open a new chapter in his career outside the pharmaceutical giant after 30 years. A task as CEO would annoy him, he said then. He has now done it.
