FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) – During internal inspections, Daimler measured the exhaust emissions of an old truck engine, which were slightly higher than what was allowed. This reported the truck manufacturer Kraftfahrtbundesamt (KBA), a spokesman for Daimler told Dow Jones. At the same time, he dismissed Bild Sunday as "misleading" that Daimler discovered a software feature that turns off exhaust aftertreatment under certain conditions.
According to Daimler, it is an engine that was used in Mercedes-Benz trucks in Europe until 2013 and that is currently sold only in the markets of Export outside of Europe. This engine has shown no abnormality in all years. However, in isolated operating situations, a slight exceedance of the NOx limit value relevant for certification has been noted. For clarification, Daimler informed the KBA.
The Authority is now talking about a technical function related to the vehicle's diagnostic system, which aims to ensure that overdose of AdBlue is avoided while driving under certain conditions, such as 39, use of biofuels. Adblue is a urea used to reduce nitrogen in the exhaust gases. Daimler is now engaged in a constructive dialogue with the KBA, said the spokesman.
