Most economists are convinced that the strength of a country's innovation is a key indicator of long-term economic success. Each year, researchers at Cornell University develop the global index of innovation. It analyzes the strength of innovation of 126 countries on the basis of about 80 indicators. On the basis of the data obtained, a ranking of the most innovative countries can then be created at the end. Switzerland currently has the greatest power of innovation – followed by the Netherlands and Sweden. Germany finished in ninth place as the year before. Among other things, the researchers identified as weak points that it was too complicated to start a business.
China made the leap to innovation
It also deserves a special attention the development of China. Because with rank 17, the country was able to rank among the 20 most innovative countries in the world for the first time. Obviously, the Middle Kingdom has not only managed to function as a pure workshop of the industrialized countries, but also to build up its own know-how. Such development was already targeted by the Chinese government several years ago. For example, foreign car manufacturers were first forced to set up joint ventures with Chinese companies to ensure some transfer of knowledge. This in turn has contributed to the fact that domestic manufacturers are now at least ahead of electric cars. The Shenzhen-Hong Kong metropolitan area is even considered as one of the most innovative regions of the world
India and Vietnam performed better than expected
China is also a kind of & dquo; Exception with its good ranking. Otherwise, the front seats will be occupied almost exclusively by the industrialized countries – and the gap with emerging and developing countries continues to increase. Thus, in the top ten places, there are eight nations of Europe as well as the United States and the city-state of Singapore. It is interesting, however, that some countries have done significantly better than what their current economic might would have expected – such as India, Vietnam, and Ukraine. This could indicate that states are on track to establish positive economic development in the long run. Iran, Mexico and Thailand have also improved steadily in recent years.
