This was a thick post for the top Swisscom. Last month, a letter from the Zurich law firm Bratschi landed on the table of the phone company's legal department. In this one, lawyers call the company to pay 20,000 francs bus – or it threatens a lawsuit.
Behind the claim is competitor Salt, as reported by the "Tages-Anzeiger". In April, Swisscom warned the number three in the Swiss mobile market about allegedly false statements. Swisscom notably stated in a presentation that Salt does not pay taxes in Switzerland and plans to systematically transfer jobs in France.
Violation of Unfair Competition
Salt air statements – and was furious. The accusation: Swisscom has deliberately spread misinformation in order to weaken competition. As the "Tages-Anzeiger" points out, important transactions have started at this stage: firstly, it was the granting of 5G licenses. On the other hand, the revision of the Telecommunications Act was imminent in Parliament. This concerns, among other things, the question of whether other telecommunications providers are allowed to use the Swisscom fiber optic network.
Swisscom had to sign a declaration to refrain from disclosing the contentious statements in the future. Salt sustains the law against unfair competition. If Swisscom violates the agreement, it must pay 20,000 francs – per offense. The threat becomes serious when, in June, a Swisscom official, in the presence of representatives of the Federal Office of Communications, despite the warnings, made controversial statements again on Salt.
According to the "Tages-Anzeiger", Swisscom finally paid for the buses. However, the company denies that the statements that led to the lawsuit are misrepresentations. (lha)
