Air China does not fly to Zurich in winter

A little over a year ago, on June 7, 2017, Air China landed in Zurich for the first time after 17 years of absence. Since then, Air China has traveled four times a week between Zurich and Beijing all year (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). Since 2013, there are three weekly flights from Geneva (Monday, Thursday, Saturday).

Today, Air China has announced that flights from Zurich would be interrupted during the winter due to a decision from its headquarters in China. The last flight from Zurich to Beijing will take place on October 26, 2018; After the winter break, flights between Zurich and Beijing will resume on 31 March 2019. Flights departing from Geneva are scheduled.

Air China does not provide information on the reason for the seasonal suspension of flights. It can be assumed that demand in both directions is not enough: SWISS also reduces its daily flights Beijing in winter to 5 weekly rotations, with Air China cancellations spontaneously here and there last winter. A reduction in the calendar between Europe and China is not uncommon; a cancellation over a whole season, however, already. In principle, however, the Zurich connection is not to be discussed.
