Commerzbank is committed to cooperating on projects related to the "new Silk Road". To this end, the institute has reached an agreement with Chinese bank ICBC to support projects under the so-called Belt & Road Initiative (BRI), also known as New Silk Road. The Commerzbank wants to support over the next five years projects related to the Silk Road of about 5 billion dollars.
The BIS set out to develop maritime routes and land-based infrastructure between China on the one hand and Asia, Africa and Europe on the other hand, in order to accelerate economic cooperation and promote trade. Specifically, Commerzbank is involved in cooperation in trade finance, capital markets consulting, capital market borrowing, refinancing, payment transactions and asset management. China was Germany's largest trading partner in 2017 with a total volume of 187 billion euros.
