Google has announced the rebranding and expansion of the Cloud Launcher platform, which will now be called the Google Cloud Platform Marketplace. There are now also Kubernetes commercial applications ready for production.
Google announced that it now offers Kubernetes commercial applications ready for production via the Google Cloud Platform Marketplace or GCP Martketplace (formerly known as Cloud Launcher). Customers can use applications on Kubernetes clusters running on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Google Kubernetes Engine, on-premises or other public clouds.
Kubernetes applications listed on the GCP Marketplace are all tested and reviewed by Google. These include Aqua Safety, Couch Base, Aerospike, Datastax, Neo4j, Gitlab and Kasten. The fees for the applications are consolidated and paid via GCP, regardless of where they are used.
This should increase the availability of production-ready application containers in enterprises. "When we launched Kubernetes as free software, one of the first challenges of the industry was to manage it," said Anil Dhawan, product manager for Google Cloud Platform, in a blog post . "Our hosted Kubernetes engine manages orchestration and cluster management, but running applications on a Kubernetes cluster can still be a tedious manual process," Dhawan added. The new market will identify pre-configured applications that can be deployed on clusters that run on-site or in public or private clouds.
