Inside-IT: AWS remains the golden ass of Amazon

Amazon Web Services revenues increased 48.9% year-over-year in the second quarter. Thus, the growth of AWS is still greater than that of the second quarter of 2017 and exceeds the expectations of analysts. As reported by Amazon, the AWS region generated a $ 6.11 billion business figure.

Amazon Cloud is clearly ahead of its closest competitors Microsoft, Google or Chinese supplier Alibaba. According to Canalys, AWS remains the leading public cloud market with a 31% market share.

This is followed by Microsoft with 18% and Google with 8% market share.

The profitability of AWS is also improved. For the quarter, AWS generated operating profit of $ 1.64 billion. Thus, AWS contributes 11.5% of sales and a whopping 55% to the total profit of the e-commerce giant.
