It's late in the evening when Murat Yakin, 44, sits at the Hotel La Porte d'Octodure in Martigny and starts talking. It belongs to the president of Sitten, Christian Constantin, and has the charm of a middle class hotel in Rimini. Yakin lived here for a while, he never had difficulty adapting to simpler circumstances, even if the opposite is often asserted.

Yakin orders a water, he already knows most of those who sit at the restaurant tables. "Hi, Muri, how are you?", They ask, and he goes and shakes hands. Later, we sit alone in the dark, the restaurant is closed for a long time, but he is allowed to stay. For four games, he's already taking care of the Sittener, once they've won. Meanwhile, Marco Otero, his assistant, took his place. Otero had already accompanied Yakin to Russia to Spartak; and, like Yakin, he spent quite a bit of time in Switzerland, training in Basel, GC and St. Gallen. Now they are working together again. For the next eight months. Yakin's contract is still long.

NZZ: Murat Yakin, you have been coaching FC Sion since mid-September. Do you like your new life in Valais?

Yakin: The area is not strange, we were children in the Upper Valais during the summer holidays. At that time, my father worked in the chemistry company Lonza in Visp. There are very nice people living here. And I will learn to know everything better. Until now, I have lived in the hotel, now I have moved into an apartment. I like it and we are here to work.

How do you organize family life with your wife and your two daughters?

The focus is again on football. My family saw me every day for the last five months after my separation, almost without a break. My wife understands the new situation and supports me.

Sunday afternoon, you will meet FC Sion, your former club Grasshoppers. What will be the meeting with GC officials? The break in April was unattractive.

Switzerland is small. I always meet people with whom I worked as a coach. When I meet Walter Stierli, former President of FC Lucerne, we greet each other very warmly and respectfully. In Thun and Basel with the former government, it is exactly the same thing.

What if you see Sunday GC President Stephan Anliker? He turned around in the spring.

It will be the same with him. We will treat each other with respect. At the time, it was also not an easy time for Anliker. He wanted to please everyone. We have now found a fair deal. There is no reason for me to be vindictive.

"GC is practically on my doorstep, and if something is on your doorstep, it can be dangerous."

You're not vindictive, although Anliker said in mid-April that every franc pays it back for you? You have never reacted. Why not

I do not like this game of ping-pong. In the end, only the media, not the Yakin and not the Anliker, benefit. I know myself too well to play this game. You must also be quiet.

Why is the situation worsening this spring?

Everything worked very well at first, almost too well. It was summer and fall of 2017. But then, it became more and more difficult for all involved to deal with the constellation and the power struggles that were going on behind Grasshoppers. . I do not hang on there.

What do you want to do?

GC is practically on my doorstep. And if something is at your door, it can be dangerous.

How?

I might want to do it too well. Because I know everything and everyone at GC. It can also hinder success. It's probably easier for an outside coach. One is unloaded. I live that too at FC Sion.

"Some have consciously wanted to misunderstand, and I would not say that in retrospect."

Your biggest mistake is that you have attacked some GC players too much in public?

This is possible. But you should not be offended too soon. When I said that I could not replace myself and my brother Hakan, it should not be pejorative. It was after the match against Lausanne, in the midst of emotions. Because we must not put every word on the golden balance. Do not expect the sport to always be affected by kid gloves.

There were other examples. Some players did not know how to read, you said.

That's not what I meant, you should know it now. Some wanted to consciously misunderstand, I would say that something in hindsight is not. But if the players are not team players, I am consistent. Maybe I was not enough with some decisions. This fell on me. It was my biggest mistake.

Murat Yakin will lead Sion

For the first time, you were fired at GC mid-season. For the first time in your coaching career, something did not work at all. What does it do to you?

I do not care so much and have not thought about it for a long time. I'm talking about football, not prestige, no career. At the beginning of my coaching career, for example, I had never had the impression that FC Thun was not good enough for me.

Or FC Schaffhausen, where you worked in the Challenge League two years ago.

Exactly. The time spent in Schaffhausen is almost the best example.

Were you happy when it was done at GC?

No. But I felt more and more: it does not suit me.

What did you learn from that time as a Grasshoppers coach?

It was an unexpected and exhausting hike in the mountains and the valley that I had never experienced in my coaching career. At first, I could have done anything: everyone was positive and everything became gold. The media said I had a magic wand. And nothing happened in the spring. Can we leave the locusts now?

D & # 39; agreement. What does it look like for you to start from 0 to 100 a few days after a break of a few months? That's what happened when you signed a contract with FC Sion in mid-September until next summer.

It's for me, like entering a room and turning on the light. It's easy for me. And when something ends, it's relatively easy for me to let go. It does not take me long. I do not have to do everything, and I do not wait nervously at home on the phone. Even after the time spent with the Grasshoppers, I was able to turn it off.

And from when does he miss the job on the football field?

Within 48 hours, I feel like I'm ready again. It has always been so. Either I'm on fire for a new idea. Or I feel no tingling after getting up. So I will leave it.

"Constantine has always fascinated me, I love his style."

And at FC Sion, it's a little tingling.

Yes right now. The past has also played a role. I still remember sitting here with my brother Hakan in Martigny twelve years ago. After the stay in Stuttgart, Hakan received an offer from FC Sion. It was a good meeting with President Christian Constantin. Constantine has always fascinated me, I love his style. How he defends his club and football is great.

How he deals with his coaches is less than brilliant.

About his trainer consumption can be discussed.

You are his number 48.

Apparently. I've recently seen a photo gallery (laughs).

What will you do differently in the club compared to your predecessors?

I do not have to lecture anyone. If we succeed, we succeed. And if not, I know what's going on. I have 32 outfielders, that's a lot, but the combination is good. And my staff anyway. The size almost reminds me of my time when I was in Russia at Spartak Moscow.

They like to influence a club. How are you going?

What does influence mean? I just like to exchange ideas with experts at the eye level.

"I decide alone when I compose the team"

But only one person decides ways: Christian Constantin.

His son Barth prepares everything as a sports director. In the end, it is the president who sits, decides and signs. There is none else. In the end, only his signature counts.

And what is your role in transfers or club politics?

In the composition of the team, I decide alone. I do not know yet what will be my role in transfers. The structures are dictated by the club and I adapt myself. This is not difficult for me, I am adaptable. I prefer to be a coach. And it does not bother me if I do not have to politicize.

In which language do you speak to Christian Constantin?

My French is not good, but it is enough. And we understand each other at a different level for the moment. I still remember Christian Constantin's recent flipchart describing his tactical views in his office. I found it impressive. We found ourselves immediately. We communicate without many words.

You regret not being able to take your brother Hakan as an assistant in Valais?

No, it's only logical. We do not speak French well both. I understand that, but it was important to meet Marco Otero, my assistant, who speaks German and French, as well as Spanish and Portuguese. I myself hold the speeches in front of the team in English.

Does Hakan hear well without you?

It was good, he could accompany me to Schaffhausen and the GC. Hakan gained significant experience during this period. He has his strengths as a junior coach. But the professional sector works differently. As a coach, he still has some way to go. In the next two or three years, he wants to acquire the Pro license. And I see him as an observer of the game, like a scout, for example. He has a very good eye. After being suspended for some time in Basel, he had to watch his coach Christian Gross's matches and report back to him. He did it very well at the time.

When you watched FC Sion from the outside, what did you think of this club?

As an opponent, the tourbillon stage has always been the shell for me. Here it smelled of football, here it burned. That's how it should be again. And I've often thought: Sion has incredibly good individual players, but anyway, you can not make a team of them. That was my analysis from the outside. In the championship, they drink too often.

And you change now?

If you can, a lot.
