Just this morning with an unfortunate tweet in the headlines, specialists in several pieces of Sonos have now confirmed speculation in recent weeks and have filed an IPO application.
The application can be found on the SEC website and shares a handful of interesting details of the company. Up to now, Sonos has sold 19 million speakers to just under 7 million homes, bringing the average Sonos family to nearly three Sonos speakers.
In addition, the company said last year to have generated close to one billion sales. Nevertheless, even with a total business turnover of $ 992.5 million in 2017 (against a growth of at least 10% in 2016), Sonos has not yet reached the dark. In 2017, there was a loss of $ 14.2 million and in 2015 a loss of $ 68.8 million.
Amazon may withdraw Alexa's support
In the Exchange application, Sonos also discusses the company's economic risks and notes, inter alia, that Amazon may remove the Alexa access at any time and only with a short advance of the Sonos speakers,
We are currently developing voice-activated speaker systems that are enhanced with the technology of our partners, including those who sell competing products. We launched Sonos One in October 2017 and Sonos Beam in July 2018, both of which are compatible with voice control thanks to Alexa's technology from Amazon. Our current agreement with Amazon allows Amazon to disable Alexa's integration into our Sonos One and Sonos Beam products. Sonos One or Sonos Beam products lose their voice features.
