Previous models did not provide full speed to all Thunderbolt 3 ports. Thanks to a new chipset that is now changing.
Apple meets the expectations of business users with the new MacBook Pro: for example, the 15-inch model is offered for the first time with up to 32GB of RAM, and for the 13-inch version you can also configure 2 TB SSDs on the small change needed – additional 1750 euros in the entry level model – a. Four full-speed ports
The 2016 and 2017 models, which were offered with Core i5 and Core i7 in the sixth or seventh generation, delivered due to support for only twelve PCI Express lanes on the two ports left the full Thunderbolt 3 speeds of 40 Gb / s.
The 2018 model now has 16 PCI-Express channels in the Coffee Lake variants provided by Apple with Core i5 and Core i7. This in turn provides these 40 Gb / s on the four ports, so users do not have to worry about which side they want to use for high performance accessories.
The 15-inch model has never had the handicap
Unaffected by the measurement is the 15-inch model. It now has all the variants of the current generation – so also in the year 2016 – still on a sufficient number of PCI Express channels and could thus provide the full speed Thunderbolt 3 speeds on the four ports. Apple has only installed USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 capability in its MacBook Pro models since 2016.
One of the ports is used for power supply it's not not connected in a garland. Until recently, a MacBook Pro with a 13-inch screen without touch bar was also offered, which only had two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Both of these provided full speed.
