The four representations of the Avenches Opera Festival have recorded over 10,000 ticket sales, almost as much as hoped. After a financial break, a new concept was tested: instead of a closed opera, there was a selection of arias.

You could hear the "Greatest Hits" of classical music, arias of "Carmen" to "Nabucco" until "La Traviata". Jean-Pierre Kratzer, president of the Avenches Opera Foundation of the Keystone-SDA news agency, said the visit had been particularly well received by the public. "Many visitors told us:" I had goosebumps ", the program has sparked emotions, touched."

Focused on famous tunes, the festival drew a wider audience, including people who did not like it so much Come to the opera, added the president. "Word-of-mouth propaganda worked, we had more audience night after night."

The festival was spared by the rain: three evenings under a sky without cloud, the fourth rain stopped just in time Beginning of the performance It would have been prepared this year: For the first time allowed a transparent roof on the stage to play in all weathers.

Financially, the situation remains tense. "We should have sold 600 to 700 more tickets to get out of the red," says Kratzer. The budget was about 1.8 million francs.

Nevertheless, the new formula was a success. It is even now considered that the festival, which according to the plan should take place every two years in the future, should resume in 2019. It will be decided in September.
