When someone with a microphone in the hand advances to the edge of the stage before the performance, it does not bode well. generally not well. Then, it is proclaimed with a worried expression that this or that artist is unfortunately unhappy today or anything else prevents the smooth running of the performance.

How many times did Stuttgart ballet director Reid Anderson have to do it in the last 22 years? 2000 evenings? At the premiere of "Party Pieces", as part of the "Reid Anderson Celebration" for the director's farewell, there was plenty to tell him on Monday. First of all, no one had, which almost never happened, in the time ordered the fire station mandatory, so it started a little later. Then, a semi-soloist whose role had been played by another heroine on the same day had failed.

The bad news, however, was that Jason Reilly, the "Crane of Toronto," had so much pain in his back that he did not like his solo. could compete. But even that did not bother Reid Anderson – he just announced a big improvised surprise for the end. And screaming with relief: "In a week I'm retired!"

"Party Pieces" are occasional pieces, as they were created on special occasions, for example the 60th anniversary of ballet nine years ago. And yet, they also reflect the two decades that Anderson has shaped: from the beginning of "Kazimir Colors" (1996, the second of the first 131 in the Anderson term) to the Pas de deux "Arcadia" ( number 122, from 2016), In addition, there were some ghosts from the cabinet room inventory "Made in Germany" from five years ago.

The elected officials of the Stuttgart company danced again through the delightful bank. And yet had to let fly a former old: The incredibly athletic Daniel Camargo, as the other star guest Marijn Rademaker has now migrated to the Dutch National Ballet, Katarzyna Kozielska solo "Firebreather" so powerfully
in the scene sky, that almost stunned

And the delicacy promised in the end? Ballerina Alicia Amatriain, after her partner Reilly failed, quickly restored the solo "Allure" by Demis Volpi (Hyo-Jung Kang danced five years ago). Amatrian was great, with fluidity and flair for sensuals: the icing on the cake, if you will, on the good dozen party snacks. Great jubilation.
