Sydney Aiello, a survivor of the shooting at a school in Parkland, Florida, has committed suicide last weekend, according to family members and friends quoted in reports.
Aiello, 19, was a student at Marjory Stoneman High School Douglas High School last year when an armed man killed 17 students and school staff. One of his friends, Meadow Pollack, was a victim of the shooting.
"The beautiful Sydney with such a promising future has been removed too soon," Hunter's brother Hunter Pollack wrote on Twitter. "It was absolutely devastating to bury another beautiful young person in Parkland today. Our community is going through the tragedy again. "
The Broward County Medical Examiner's Office told NBC that Aiello had died from a gunshot wound to his head.

Aiello's mother, Cara, told CBS Miami that her daughter was at school on the day of the mass shooting, but not in the first-year building, where that happened. Nevertheless, she felt the survivor's guilt and had recently been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, the news channel reported.
"Cara said that Sydney was struggling to attend classes at the university because she was afraid to be in a classroom and that she was often sad recently but that she was not safe. She never asked for help before killing herself, "the station wrote.
Aiello was passionate about cheerleading, yoga and "brightening the time of others," according to a GoFundMe page created to raise money for her funeral.
Her Facebook page, which has been turned into a memorial, shows photos of her on the beach and with friends. It also included photos taken during the March for Our Lives, a gun control event held in March 2018, in which many Stoneman Douglas students spoke. In September, Aiello announced that she had started teaching a yoga class.
"It's terrible what happened," said Meadow Pollack's father, Andrew, at the Miami Herald. "Killing oneself is not the answer. … If anyone feels that this is the case, there is no one who can understand his pain, if there is a student who has difficulties, contact me on Twitter. I understand you. You are not alone. "

The link between firearms and suicide is a lesser known aspect of the gun control debate. Victor Schwartz, medical director of the Jed Foundation, which works to prevent suicide among young adults, told NBC that "exposure to death around you slightly increases the risk of suicide."

Ryan Petty, whose daughter, Alaina, was killed in the school massacre, told CBS Miami: "It breaks my heart to have lost another Stoneman Douglas student."
