Table Player Gift Guide for 2020

[ad_1]

Looking for gifts for table players? Here are some of my suggestions, based on games I enjoyed this year… and games I would love to see under my Alcoa foil this year.

What were your favorite games of 2020? Let us know in the comments.

JUSTICE DREDD: THE DARK JUDGES ($ 25.36)

Helter Skelter is a Judge Dredd revamp of Martin Wallace’s wonderful Wildlands game (which I previously recommended here). Dark judges is an extension for Skelter Hero. It adds a new faction (uh… the Dark Judges) to play in regular games or you can play solo against the Dark Judges. For 1 to 4 players.

BUY

DARK SECTOR: THE GAME OF DEESPATIAL ADVENTURE ($ 55)

One of the games we love here at Branwyn is the precursor to Escape the Dark Sector, Escape the dark castle. It’s a simple dungeon exploration card game that’s surprisingly reminiscent of a much more detailed board game or RPG. Escape the Dark Sector brings the same kind of card game to explore and fight monsters in a space station. For 1 to 4 players.

BUY

THOUSAND YEAR VAMPIRE ($ 45 / $ 15)

It was one of my favorite gaming experiences in 2020. It’s a really addicting single player journaling game that has literally haunted my dreams. Here’s my full review of Boing Boing from the start of the year. Single player game. A PDF version is available here.

BUY

KNIFE TANK: THE SHÜFFLING ($ 15)

Another 2020 favorite here was from Doc Popular Tank knife, “a portable strategy game with kinetic gameplay, imaginative art, and tanks with knives.” Here is my full review. For 2 to 4 players.

BUY

PITCHSTORM ($ 25)

Here is a game I know nothing about, but it comes highly recommended by Boing boing boyfriend, John Edgar Park. “Pitchstorm is a board game that puts you in the position of an unprepared writer presenting films to the world’s worst executives. Writers must pitch their idea for a movie and find a way to incorporate the random notes thrown by the executives. on the spot. ” For 3 to 12 players.

BUY

CYBERPUNK JUMPSTART KIT RED ($ 33)

To update the players Cyberpunk Red, the latest edition of Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk RPG, R. Talsorian Games has released a nice starter set called Cyberpunk Red Starter Kit. The game comes with two booklets, one containing the knowledge of the world and the starting adventures, the other, the ground rules, six pre-generated character sheets, six cyberpunk style dice (2 d10, 4 d6 ), cards and standing cardboard figures. It’s a great way to get your feet wet Cyberpunk RPG universe. The complete Cyberpunk Red Core rulebook is available for purchase on R. Talsorian’s website. I don’t know if it’s actually shipped or not. (FWIW: Cyberpunk 2077 video game is set in the same universe as these tabletop RPGs.)

BUY

ALL’S TASHA’S CHAULDRON (D&D RULES EXPANSION) ($ 30)

This 5th D&D rulebook expansion has… well, a bit of everything. It includes extended subclasses, character options to change racial stereotypes … uh, I mean traits, rules for group bosses, more spells, artifacts, and magical tattoos ( because MAGIC TATTOOS!), Rules for sidekicks and supernatural environments. And something that I find very fun and useful: a collection of puzzles (with traps) that you can dive into on an adventure. The book got the wrong answer initially for feeling love at first sight (e.g. the custom races / origins section is one page) and Wizards is heating up for what appears to be a large number of poorly bound copies. It might be time for them to look for a new printer.

BUY

FROSTGRAVE 2ND EDITION ($ 23)

One of my favorite fantasy skirmish games remains Frostgrave. Quick and relatively inexpensive to use, fun to play, and with as much campaign depth as you want. This year saw the release of the 2nd edition of the game. The new edition doesn’t change most of the rules, just tidy up and tighten things up, add expansion material (eg, expanded spell list, new scenarios) and it there are all new illustrations and thumbnails. If you’re already a FGV fan, check out The Red King, the first big campaign supplement for FGV 2e. For 2 to 8 players.

BUY

FROSTGRAVE DEMONS ($ 30)

North Star Miniatures has released a spectacular line of multi-part plastic minis in support of Frostgrave. Their latest is a demon box to coincide with The red king campaign. These versatile minis can be used not only in Frostgrave but they’re perfect to use in miniatures you create for any mini-agnostic fantasy skirmish or full tabletop fighting games. (I even used excerpts from Frostgrave minis in my Gaslands cars!)

BUY

WIZARD EYE: THE ART OF FROSTGRAVE ($ 36)

This magnificent art book brings together all the art for which Dmitry and Kate Burmak made Frostgrave 1st. Lots of informative comments from Burmaks and FGV designer Joe McCullough. A great gift for any fan of fantasy sword art and witchcraft. Read my full review.

BUY

GREEN VILLAGE ($ 21)

My partner and I love playing this Peer Sylvester small box matching card game. You play the gardening companies of two different villages competing for the first green village square. The graphics are lovely, the game is easy to learn and there are a lot of puzzles to solve to try and get the most ribbon rewards at the end. For 1 to 5 players.

BUY

DOOR ($ 15)

This single player game comes highly recommended by my buddy and game designer, Doc Pop (he from the Tank knife). You can read a review of Doc here. Hope to get a copy and review it here in the future. I really love the look. It comes in a mint box!
