The most significant difference is the size. Taco Bell is reducing the number of seats in the dining room and adding a second drive-thru lane dedicated to pickup orders made on its app. The “Go Mobile” concept will debut next year.
“The evolved restaurant is uniquely designed so that customers can pre-order through the brand’s mobile app and enjoy the Taco Bell experience in a frictionless manner,” the company said in a statement Thursday.
Other features of the “Go Mobile” restaurant include the addition of curbside pickup for contactless pickups and “bellboys” – masked employees posted outside taking customer orders on digital tablets. Customers can still enter the restaurant and order at the counter.
Taco Bell rival Chipotle recently opened its 100th drive-thru restaurant called “Chipotlane”. These sites saw 10% higher sales in the second quarter compared to Chipotles without drive-thru. Approximately 60% of its new locations planned this year will have drive-thru.
