Sonic the hedgehog struggles for a long time to meet expectations. Unlike Nintendo's mascot, Mario, the adventures of Sonic have not always succeeded, mainly because of his "you have to go fast" attitude and come to life. Fortunately, all this changed in 2017, when Christian Whitehead was launched for free by Sega and revitalized the series with Sonic Mania and finally the DLC complement Sonic Mania Plus.
Takashi Iizuka of Sonic Team did not take that for granted, either. In an interview with LadBible a few weeks ago, he briefly explained how important Mania was for the Sonic franchise:
"… after Mania, I feel that the character and the games have really taken a decisive turn to where we want everything to go."
As for the Sonic movie, Iizuka has already clarified that Sega was not involved. Iizuka is a consultant, but all that entails is that the film crew shows her her work and then asks for comments. He also listens to what fans are saying about the upcoming movie and transmits it:
"It's not a SEGA film – we do not do it, or anything – and I'm only an advisor, really, but it shows me things, and the [movie team] ask my opinion. I also listen to what the fans say, and I will inform the director – he and the producers are very interested in these comments. In the end, it's up to the Paramount team to do something, but we're all looking forward to seeing the movie finished. "
