Although he acknowledged that pushing back 10nm presents a "risk and some delay" in the company's roadmap, Intel is very pleased with the "resilience" of its roadmap 14nm. Meanwhile, the Intel 10nm process should be in an ideal state to mass-produce chips by the end of 2019.

Intel's Cannon Lake chip is essentially a shrinking of its "generation" processor design Kaby Lake "seventh generation. But with mass production pushed back at the end of 2019, the 10nm chips will fall under Intel's ninth-generation umbrella with processors based on its future "Ice Lake" design.
