The company added 1 million additional customers to its international operations, bringing its total customer base to 76.5 million.
Vodacom's local customers reached 43.1 million, an increase of 9.5% due to 1.4 million prepaid customers and 75,000 new contracts.
The company stated that the growth of the prepaid customer base at 5.5% was good. Growth was supported by customer growth, which was slightly offset by a decrease in ARPUs (average revenue per user) as the company is attracting new customers with lower average expenses compared to the current base.
Contractual customers' revenues increased over previous quarters and increased by 0.8%.
The number of 4G customers also increased during the quarter, as the company added 739,000 4G customers to 8.1 million customers.
In addition to the increase in the number of customers, the company also recorded an increase in data revenue. Data revenues grew 9.4% to 6.1 billion rand and contributed 44.1% of the service's business revenue. The network said it would continue to encourage the engagement of data groups to ensure a worry-free experience for its users.
The success of the pricing plan makes data more affordable for their users and has resulted in a 32.2% increase in data sets and a fully effective price by 17.1% decrease.
Vodacom expanded its rural coverage and made progress to improve performance and backhaul capacity by increasing the size of self-supplied large capacity sites from 90.1% to 92.4%.
Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub said the strong momentum of his annual results propelled the company into a good quarter.
He added that they focus on investing in networks as a key competitive differentiator, as well as on growing their 4G coverage.
