The Mpera Project, Kimbiji, is a strategic initiative to solve water scarcity in many regions of Dar es Salaam and the coast, which has been delayed for four years now. "This project started in 2013 and was to be completed in 2014, but due to various challenges, the deadline was missed … but because of its importance, the project must be completed despite ongoing investigations", said Professor Mbarawa. The Mpera Project, Kimbiji has been a center of heated debate during the recent parliamentary session in Dodoma, with lawmakers asking the Office of Prevention and Anti-Corruption (PCCB) to investigate.
However, the Minister has asked DAWASA for a new plan as soon as possible, which involves daily supervision to ensure the completion of drilling that will ensure an adequate supply of safe and clean water to Dar es Salaam and to parts of the coastal region.
Professor Mbarawa also directed DAWASA to review their contracts with contractors to compel them to find all project materials in the country instead of importing them.
