Speaking to the Guardian An exhibition on the grounds of Mnazi Mmoja in Dar es Salaam recently, Godwin Mloka, one of the project 's developers, explained that the training was provided by the. Professional Training Authority (VETA).
He said that students would study using their cell phones. thanks to the VSOMO application.
Mloka said through the application, students undergo theoretical training on their mobile phones and perform several online exams.
He adds that two weeks of 60-hour practical training are then offered after the student has completed his theoretical studies, after which successful students obtain a certificate of VETA.
Mloka says currently 12 courses were offered including domestic electrical installation;
Airtel Tanzania, through its corporate social responsibility program, has partnered with VETA to launch the first phase of the VSOMO application.
According to VETA, mobile learning facility in the country was introduced with the aim of providing Tanzanians with increased access to vocational education and training (VET).
The use of the application is consistent with the goal of VETA to increase VET access. It is hoped that the success of the first phase will lead to a new replication, thus reaching a larger number of young people.
Online studies are widespread around the world, but Tanzania will be the first country to embark on mobile vocational training. VETA receives about fifteen thousand applications a year, but only one-third of candidates are registered, leaving two-thirds without access to VET.
