Walla Wallans Harry and Kathy McMichael's mission is to help girls in Tanzania. The couple founded Calvary Connection Ministries International in 1992 but felt called to be a missionary long before getting married in 1964. The McMichaels discussed their work through the non-profit CCMCI with the Maasai village of U & # 39; Kambeni in Tanzania. , Africa, at a recent meeting of Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary Club.
Their mission is on the slopes of Kilimanjaro on 12 acres of land that were awarded to them in 2007. They began with 25 students studying the program of the International School of Ministry. In 2017, the eighth class of 25 students graduated.
Since 2008, the goal has been to build a rescue center and school in Tanzania where women have no rights and where teenage girls are over 65 years old.
They opened a primary school in 2010 and in 2016, fourth graders took their first national tests and ranked first in the district, second in the region and seventh in the country.
Kishapuy English Medium School serves 207 students. The facilities are being expanded to meet the growing needs of the young women served, they said. The school is ranked 91st out of 5123 schools in Tanzania. The McMichaels reported that the cost is $ 19 per month for each girl in the school
