Magufuli launches the launch of a state-of-the-art library

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli officiated $ 41. Library worth 28 million (more than 90 billion shillings) at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), whose construction was completed in July 2018.

The launching ceremony of the largest library that China has ever built in Africa took place on Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

Vice Chancellor of the UDSM, William Anangisye, said earlier at the ceremony that the construction of the library, funded by the Chinese government, began in December 2015.

Professor Anangisye said the state-of-the-art library, which covers an area of ​​20,000 square meters, can accommodate 2,100 students at a time.

It also has 160 computers connected to the Internet.

In addition, the UDM said the library has a conference room that can accommodate 600 people at a time.

According to Professor Anangisye, about 1.78 billion shillings were reserved for the purchase of books for the aforementioned library during the 2017/18 fiscal year.

He added that during the current fiscal year, some 1.1 billion shillings were earmarked for the same purpose.

President Magufuli asked the university administration to ensure that the library, with a storage capacity of 800,000 pounds, is full of books.

"This library should be a catalyst for improving the quality of education in the country," said the president.

Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, said the library should serve as a catalyst for producing more talented and innovative Tanzanians.

"It's the largest and most modern China has ever built in Africa," Ke said, adding, "I'm optimistic about its usefulness for Tanzanians."
