Japhet Hasunga, Minister of Agriculture, said the government would continue to create a favorable environment that attracts more investors in the sector.
With the recent launch of the new Kilombero cluster for the Southern Tanzania Agricultural Growth Corridor (Sagcot), Hasunga said the government's overall goal was to transform the sector to improve the country's economy. .
"This would ensure that the sector plays a pivotal role in the industrialization of Tanzania," the minister added, noting that agricultural growth and development would simultaneously stimulate growth in other sectors of the economy. ;economy.
"We will continue to create an environment conducive to the development of agriculture (…) We will transform the sector so that small farmers can obtain all the necessary agricultural inputs.
"At the same time, we will strive to create an average level of farmers while attracting large-scale investments," he said.
The Kilombero cluster, which covers essentially the entire Morogoro region, is the third (cluster) of Sagcot.
Other clusters include Ihemi Cluster and Mbalali, where the first covers the Iringa and Njombe regions and the second, the Mbeya and Songwe regions. Three other clusters are in preparation.
He added that the Ministry of Agriculture will soon convene a meeting bringing together all stakeholders for a dialogue on how to develop the sector in the interest of the country.
"The idea would be to bring all stakeholders to a forum so that they can discuss how we can develop the sector," he said. The two assistants of Mr. Hasunga, Mr. Innocent Bashungwa and Mr. Omari Mgumba, as well as the regional commissioners (RCs) of Mbeya, Iringa and Morogoro, also attended the launch of the Kilombero cluster, among other distinguished guests.
Iringa Regional Commissioner Ali Hapi and his counterpart in Mbeya, Albert Chalamila, reviewed how Sagcot helped attract agricultural investment to their regions and turned small subsistence farmers into commercial conditions. .
