TANZANIA is ready to start processing 5,000 tons of cashew nuts a year in the Chinese Sunshine industry located in the Mtwara region.
Addressing Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Joseph Kakunda, said the government and industry leadership were progressing. in the discussions and that the industry would begin to work soon.
He made the remarks in Dar es Salaam yesterday when Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Wang Ke visited the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment for discussions on economic cooperation between the two countries.
"We agreed to strengthen economic cooperation between our countries and the main problem in Tanzania is to start treating cashews in the sun industry of the Mtwara region," he said.
He noted that their discussions with the delegation of the Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania on the basis of maintaining and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the sectors of industrial technology and trade.
According to him, the industry will help Tanzania export processed cashews to overseas markets.
Ambassador Wang Ke said that China would continue to help Tanzania improve its economic development, especially in the sectors of trade and industry. She said more than 200 Tanzanians would benefit from employment opportunities in the Sunshine industry.
"We have a historic relationship, we have to maintain it in a positive way by helping each other to improve the economic development of our countries, and I will make sure the industry goes into business in the near future," she said.
She added that China plans to send a large delegation to Tanzania to explore investment opportunities.
At the same time, the Japanese government also stated that it would continue to improve and strengthen cordial relations with Tanzania, especially in the areas of trade, industries and investments.
