WASHINGTON DC [USA]: The Hollywood star veteran, Robert De Niro, finally broke the silence after his breakup with his wife Grace Hightower and called for "privacy and respect for all".
Earlier this month, several news agencies announced that De Niro and Hightower had decided to quit after 20 years of marriage. Although the news has been confirmed by sources close to the couple, neither De Niro nor Hightower has verified the information so far.
In a statement given to E! News, recipient of an Oscar, said: "Grace and I have two beautiful children together.We are entering a transition period in our relationship which is a difficult but constructive process.I honor Grace as a mother. wonderful and ask for the confidentiality and respect of all as we develop our roles as partners in parenting. "
De Niro met Hightower in 1987 while she was working at the famous Mr. Chow restaurant in London. She was harnessed in 1997 after a relationship of a decade or so.
They share two children together, their son Elliott (20) and their daughter Helen Grace (6).
According to People, in 2004, the Hollywood couple renewed their wishes in front of celebrities such as Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Ben Stiller and Tom Brokaw.
The two men were last seen together on the red carpet at the 72nd Tony Awards ceremony in New York.
