Liverpool supporters furious against Marco Verratti following a "shameful" challenge

Liverpool fans were left furious by Marco Verratti's challenge to Joe Gomez.

The Italian lost control of the ball as he drove forward and he flew in with his right shoe on the Reds defender.

Verratti's crampons crashed against Gomez's leg and a mistake was made.

The Liverpool star took up the challenge and quickly got up, lucky not to have been seriously injured.

The referee quickly brandished a yellow card, but the Liverpool players thought that should have been more. Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk surrounded the grievor and pleaded their case, but he was not going to change his mind.

Supporters watching at home agreed with the players and showed their frustration on Twitter.

One fan said, "This tackle from Verratti is awful, if it was Hendo on Neymar who would continue to turn around the referee gives 100% red."

Another supporter tweeted: "A red card all night that broke my leg, if ever I saw one, dirty Verratti."
