Police said the museum authorities had first tried to find the article by themselves, but that they were unable to do anything.
They also provided video surveillance footage of the premises to the police in which a person could be seen going out with the object.

After studying CCTV footage, the police managed to identify the accused and caught him in Gurgaon. Ratra had already been arrested in 2016 for allegedly attempting to enter a five-star hotel in Sarojini Nagar with a sword while US Secretary of State John Kerry resided there.

He was also arrested for stealing alcohol imported from a store the same year, police said.

His father has already served the Coast Guard as the Inspector General. An officer said that Ratra is suspected of being a kleptomaniac.
