Katsutoshi Jitsukawa pleaded guilty to having almost 10 times the legal limit of alcohol.
A Japan Airlines pilot who flew nearly 10 times over the alcohol limit for a London-Tokyo flight was sentenced to 10 months in jail.
Katsutoshi Jitsukawa was arrested on October 28 after the driver of a bus from Heathrow Airport smelled of alcohol and informed the security services.
Tests revealed that the first 42-year-old officer had 189 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood in his system, nearly 10 times the 20 milligram limit set for a pilot. The limit for drivers in Britain is 80 milligrams.

Japan Airlines co-pilot Katsutoshi Jitsukawa was arrested after failing a breathalyzer test shortly before a London-Tokyo flight.
Judge Phillip Matthews said Jitsukawa put the passengers at risk and the consequences could have been "catastrophic".

Continuing his sentence Thursday at the Isleworth Court of Justice in London, the judge said: "The prospect that you are taking control of this plane is too appalling to be considered."
