Passengers from a train-bed connecting London to Scotland were forced to use a replacement bus service after the train had encountered a "technical problem".
The Lowlander Lowlander Caledonian Sleeper service to Glasgow and Edinburgh terminated at Stafford in the West Midlands at 5:45 am.
The 173 passengers on board were woken up and offered a bus to Glasgow.
The service for Wednesday night has now been canceled. Caledonian Sleeper tweeted "sincere apology".
The train is supposed to leave London Euston at 23:50 and split up at Carstairs. Cars to Glasgow and Edinburgh arrive in each city at around 07:20.
But the service Tuesday / Wednesday, the passengers were woken up just after 5:00 by a knock on the door and were informed that the journey between Stafford and Glasgow should be done by bus.
Buses were on the road north at 6:30.
Edinburgh passengers were informed that their night tickets could be used on the Glasgow to Edinburgh train.

A passenger tweeted that he was "currently stuck in Crewe … standing in the rain and that coaches are there but no driver".
The Caledonian Sleeper tweeted: "Our apologies to customers, but due to a technical problem with the coaches, this service will have to end at Stafford.
"A replacement road transport has been set up to take Stafford's guests to Glasgow."
The company added that passengers could request a full refund.
