After Reliance Jio Phone, Nokia 8110 4G to get the update WhatsApp

New Delhi: Reliance Jio Phone has stormed the country after its launch in 2017. It now has more than 25 million users in India, said Thursday Reliance President Industries Limited (RIL), Mukesh Ambani Mukesh Ambani. Announcing that the company is ready to take the phone to another level, Ambani said the phone will now have additional capabilities and features. Jio Phone, which runs on a new Linux-based operating system, KaiOS, will now support WhatsApp and YouTube. This will allow the phone to do a lot more than any other phone in its range.

However, to counter competition in similar-scope phones, Nokia-licensed HMD Global announced the support of WhatsApp for a new range of phones – Nokia 8110 4G, a banana phone. The phone was launched in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 as the next step in the already existing Nokia 8110. The phone runs on Smart Feature OS which is ultimately based on KaiOS. It can provide access to several Google features such as Google Assistant, Google Search and Google Maps.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, wrote on Twitter: "Oh, look, WhatsApp on KaiOS! In the expectation of going [banana emoticon] hinting that the company might as well incorporate this feature into their phones.

Juho had previously introduced nokia 8110 4G (Banana) and shared the picture of the phone on his Twitter account on June 4.

Jio and HMD Global are trying to target the affordable range of phones that are generally available without features like WhatsApp, YouTube or Google services. With the introduction of KaiOS, it became possible to explore and exploit this spectrum of phones too.

• The phone has a storage capacity of 4 GB and a battery of 1500 mAh, or 9.32 hours of conversation
