Android Auto is online for a refresh, with Google adding features that make it easier for the driver to access music and messages.
The company says third-party giants Spotify, WhatsApp, Pandora and iHeartRadio have full integration, while its own Google Play Music and Hangouts are also fully supported. The changes come as Google tries to move the apps section to the top of the dock, meaning drivers will spend less time navigating and more time focusing on the road.
Of course, voice search also makes it easy for users to ask Assistant to play a particular song, album, artist, playlist, podcast, or book. On the dock, a selection of additional results will also appear.
In terms of messaging, things have also been simplified. When new messages arrive, Android Auto now displays a preview of the text, but only when the vehicle is stopped. And your standard SMS messages do not concern either – MMS and RCS (your photo and video messages, children) are also supported and, of course, the WhatsApp group messages are fully compatible with the new changes.
