Google Impact Challenge

Google announced the winners of the Google Impact Challenge 2018.

Six months ago, the Google Impact Challenge (GIC) called on Kenyan, Nigerian and South African social innovators to come up with bold and ambitious ideas to make an impact on the community. We received more than 5,000 submissions across the continent.

Today, 36 local non-profit leaders and social entrepreneurs from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa took to the stage and presented their ideas for developing economic opportunities in their country and beyond in front of a panel of expert judges. Our judges selected a total of 12 finalists and our three "Public Choice" winners were announced after counting more than 200,000 votes from the public, the highest of any Impact Challenge in the world.

The winners will receive a grant of $ 250,000 from Google.org, while the finalists will receive a grant of $ 125,000, for a total of $ 6 million in new funding across the continent.

"We are inspired by the passion and vision of all our finalists – and the real work is just beginning. We are excited to partner with these organizations as they embark on new and innovative projects to further improve our communities.
Thank you to all members of all the nominating organizations, to all members of the public who voted, to our esteemed judges and, above all, to the 36 finalists, "said Google.
