Lijnders had previously spent three and a half years with the Reds, first as a Under-16 coach at the Academy, before being named coach of the first team in 2015, where he had contributed to bridge the gap between Kirkby and Melwood.

The arrival of Klopp has seen Lijnders rise further to become an important member of the backroom team.
