Before that, two other BlackBerry smartphones had also achieved FCC BE 100-1 and BBE 100-2 certification – both would be variants of the BlackBerry "Lite". With another model number added to the mix, it is thought that this could be the third variant that will be available.

Blass also tweeted that the phone could be launched at the end of August or September, potentially at the IFA Technology Fair in Berlin, which starts on August 31 and ends on September 5 .
