Gaborone – There is a need to improve Botswana's education system in order to adapt to the changing world, said the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Research, Education and Training. Science and Technology, Moiseraele Goya.
Speaking at the June 17 Commonwealth Education Policy Workshop in Gaborone, Goya said the meeting was taking place at the most opportune moment as it would allow the SADC region to measure the progress of its education systems.
Mr. Goya later stated that the region would use this framework to strengthen its basic education policies and systems while striving to achieve sustainable development goals in education.
The framework, he said, ensured that the delivery of education was focused on equity, lifelong learning, workforce planning, and education. work and relevance for 21st century skills and jobs.
He added that most SADC countries were in the process of transforming their education systems, noting that Botswana was implementing the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (2015-2020). .
"I understand that Seychelles is also implementing the Education Sector Plan – 2013-2017 Medium Strategic Plan, and there is also the Education and Training Sector Improvement Program. in Namibia and the 2016-2026 Education Sector Plan for Namibia, to name a few, "he said.
Mr. Goya stated that their participation in the workshop demonstrated the commitment of their respective countries to a continuous improvement of education systems, adding that he thought that they use this framework to strengthen their education policies and systems.
He congratulated the Commonwealth Secretariat for having seen fit to develop the framework and share it with the SADC region.
He urged country representatives to engage in collective efforts and networks, as well as to gather expert knowledge to strengthen their respective education policies and systems. . Malawi, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, eSwatini, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa and Botswana were represented at the three-day workshop.
