Brendon Hartley spoke for the first time since his surrender by the Toro Rosso Formula One team to Alexander Albon's benefit for 2019.

Its release was confirmed by Albon's announcement on Monday and the Toro Rosso press release did not mention Hartley specifically.

Hartley has only scored four points in his F1 career, but his highlight was that he took sixth place on the grid for Honda's home race at Suzuka, shown below.

But his future was the source of speculation late in the season, Toro Rosso refusing to confirm his place.

After his departure, Hartley was congratulated by Toro Rosso's engine partner, Honda, for helping the automaker accelerate its development ahead of its merger with Red Bull in 2019.

"I left the [Yas Marina] Sunday tour with my head up, "Hartley said in a post on Twitter.

"I'm very proud of my history and my career so far, but I feel I still have work in F1. For the moment, this has been put on hold.

"I've already had difficulties with speed and I firmly believe that difficult situations make you stronger.

"It also helps that I have a good NZ [New Zealand] support team, friends, family and wife.

"I would also like to thank my coach Rich and almost all of the 500 staff members of Toro Rosso with whom I am alongside and with whom I enjoy working, the entire engineering team, mechanics, marketing, public relations, logistics, home team, factory staff and of course all to Honda Racing.

"I really appreciate the support I've received from fans around the world this year, I still have a lot of pages to write in my story and I'll make the most of this opportunity in the world." next chapter. "

Hartley's options for 2019 are not yet clear.

He was previously linked to the IndyCar Chip Ganassi Racing team, before the Toro Rosso player change allowed him to depart from a contract signed with IndyCar for the 2018 F1 season.

Its former employer, Porsche, left the WEC at the end of 2017 after the dieselgate scandal but will join Formula E for the 2019/20 season.
