JACKMAN, Maine – A town near the Canadian border and a group of sports hunters are raising questions about a construction project of a 145-mile transmission line crossing the state of Maine.
Central Maine Power is behind the $ 1 billion effort, christened "New England Clean Energy Connect". The project is ongoing in the state environmental approval process.
Residents of Jackman Town, in western Maine, voted in a Wednesday morning meeting to oppose the proposal. The city joins a handful of others who oppose the project.
The transmission line has also lost support from the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine. The group's executive director, David Trahan, issued a letter saying "it is clear that an overwhelming percentage of our members are against it".
