David Villa, one of the most successful importers of MLS, has announced the end of his career at New York City FC.
The club confirmed Wednesday that the Spanish striker would leave NYC FC when his contract expires at the end of December. "My experience here has been incredible," said the 36-year-old. Villa is in his fourth season at NYC FC and was the club's first foreign rookie when he joined in June 2014. Unlike many foreign MLS stars, Villa was still relatively young at age 32 when he signed for the club. He quickly impressed the fans with his talent for goals, which he had already established since he became Spain's top scorer, and his pace of fieldwork.

Villa scored 80 goals in 124 MLS matches and was named the league's most valuable player in 2016. He was recalled to the Spanish team in August 2017, three years after his retirement from international football.
Villa said it was his intention to continue playing but that he had not decided where that would go yet.
