New NHS digital technologies should be deployed in partnership with patients and rigorously evaluated, based on evidence, a new report says.1
The report of the Academy of Medical Sciences indicates that health technologies that use patient data should support the "social values" that underpin the NHS, including equitable access to health care.
Published on 29 November, the report sets out a set of principles that the NHS, industry and regulators must adopt to ensure that all patients benefit from the potential of digital technologies. It is essential to put in place "robust processes for the evaluation, regulation and ongoing monitoring of the use of patient data and data-driven technologies".
