Facebook's multi-user video feature, Watch Party, is now available for Pages and personal profiles.

The offer – which allows multiple users to simultaneously watch and comment on the same video – was initially launched in groups only. Since the release of its beta version in July, the group reports that the number of daily monitoring parties has increased seven-fold and that there have been more than 12 million surveillance parties.

Facebook has also introduced new features, including the ability for Pages and Groups to schedule a night of surveillance, live commentary, and live commentary that allows a host to moderate a night of surveillance during video playback.

Why is it important

Until now, according to Facebook, Watch Party has been an effective tool for increasing engagement. The company reports that Watch Parties receives eight times more comments than non-live videos, which is good news for marketers who use this feature to connect and interact with multiple customers at once.

The company says technology can be used in many ways, including Q & A, behind-the-scenes and B-roll content, tips and tricks, and demonstrations. Publishers have also used this feature to host monitoring parties to create anticipation of events and connect audiences in other media.

What should you know from other

  • Although Facebook is slowly deploying the opportunity for individuals to host surveillance nights, it is now available worldwide.
  • The company is introducing its new live comment feature at an event to be held Wednesday: a night of surveillance of the Big Chicken Shaq Shaq curated by Shaquille O'Neal on his page.
