Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, said that the leaders of President Muhammadu Buhari and ECOWAS should obey court decisions in the interests of political stability.

Tayo Soyemi, staff member of Falana and Falana chambers, told the attorney during a speech at the "ECOWAS Consultative Meeting on Access to Justice and Respect for Legality" "in Accra, Ghana.

Nigeria's chief defender (SAN) was quoted as saying that, in accordance with the rule of law, Buhari should have ordered the State Department (DSS) to release Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. (IMN), and his wife.

He added that the president should also comply with a court order requiring the federal government to disclose details of stolen assets recovered so far.

"Buhari and ECOWAS leaders should abide by the judgments and orders of municipal courts and regional courts in the interests of public accountability and political stability," said Falana.

"Having now adopted the rule of law, President Buhari should order the State Security Service to release Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, in accordance with the orders of the Federal High Court of 2 December 2016 In the same vein, orders issued by the Nigerian courts and the ECOWAS court for bail on Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) should be executed without further delay.

"Among the other notorious judgments that President Buhari must obey without delay, let us quote at least four judgments obtained by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). The first is the judgment of Judge Hadiza Rabiu Shagari, directing the government to let Nigerians know the stolen property that has been recovered, with details of the amounts recovered.

"The second judgment, delivered by Judge Mohammed Idris, ordered the government to publish detailed information on the spending of stolen funds recovered by successive governments since the return of democracy in 1999, while the third judgment, also delivered by Judge Idris, ordered President Buhari to act reports of investigations into allegations of stuffing and theft of some 481 billion naira in the 2016 budget from some officials of the 39 National Assembly and aimed at ensuring the prosecution of the accused legislators.

"The fourth judgment of the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja, also obtained from SERAP, urged the Nigerian authorities to provide free and quality education to all Nigerian children, without discrimination.

"Nigeria has a duty to show the example in the region since President Mhammadu Buhari is the current President of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. This leadership has just been demonstrated by the Nigerian leader who has distanced himself from the decision of Nigeria's ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to expel its injured members who have sued the party in front of the party. court for their grievances against the outcome of the recently concluded party primaries.

"President Buhari should also show leadership in the region by ensuring that all judgments of the ECOWAS Court against Nigeria are fully and unconditionally respected. The hostile disposition of African states in the courts is essentially the same.

The lawyer said Africans should not be deceived by the AU's alleged attempt to conceal the "serious crimes" against humanity committed by some of the continent's leaders.
