Last week, residents of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, were surprised by a huge meteor from the fireball that swept the skies.

Space rock soared in the skies of Lower Michigan on Saturday morning – and the entire incident was filmed by a lucky spectator on his camera.

Speaking to M Live, Cal Pawson explained, "I can tell you in person that it was such an amazing experience to see first-hand.

"So much bigger than it seems in the video. At first I thought it was a plane that passed over the trees, but was traveling too fast for a plane.

"By the time I realized what it was, it had collapsed on the road."

Meteor observations occur when a rock of space approaches the Earth enough to penetrate into the Earth's atmosphere.

Once it reaches our atmosphere, the rock vaporizes and burns, producing a trail of light in the night sky.

The meteor was spotted by several people

Because of their appearance, these streaks of light are often referred to as shooting stars, although they are not stars at all!

If you want to see a meteor by yourself, thankfully, do not wait until the next meteor shower.

The meteor shower rain of the Delta Aquarids will reach its peak on the evening of July 28th, during which time it is expected that up to 20 meteors per hour!
