Ford GT vs McLaren 720S drag race is far from a photo finish

It seems that the American tuner and supercars builder, Hennessey, has taken the habit of organizing drag racing from time to time. It was only yesterday that the McLaren 600LT of the company was opposed to the 720S. We now see the latter fighting against another high-performance machine owned by secondary market specialists in the aftermarket.

This is a Ford GT from the Heritage Edition with retro flavors that you may have already seen in an acceleration race against a 1,000 horsepower version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trachawk. As usual, the GT and 720S compete in roulette and roulette races. The result is indisputable: the McLaren takes it by far.

Some would say that the end result is logical since nothing replaces the displacement, since the GT is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 bi-turbo, while the 720S is equipped with a 4.0 liter V8 larger, also equipped with a pair of turbochargers. The difference in power between the two is considerable, the McLaren benefiting from a 63 hp advantage over the Blue Oval model (710 hp against 647 hp). The torque is about the same, 550 pounds (760 Nm) for the GT and 770 Nm (568 lb) for the Woking supercar.

Another important factor in an acceleration race is the weight. The GT is larger, with a dry weight of 1385 kg (1354 kg) against 1,283 kg (720S), although a new carbon series reduced by 18.1 kg (40 lb) to fill the gap.

The transmission of the two cars also deserves to be taken into account. In the case of the GT, this is a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch engine that you'll also find in the Mercedes-AMG GT with the same gear ratios, but in the GT, you'll have to double the price to replace it. As for the 720S, it is also a seven-speed unit in the DCT range, so fast that a datalogger can not keep up.
