A former head of the Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday that a Facebook official had been misled and that an international committee of parliamentarians had heard about the company's policy on Protection of private life.
Soltani said his motivation for coming to the committee was to provide them with technical expertise that would help him make an informed decision about Facebook. He stated that he had been working on this issue for a decade and that he had himself tested the privacy settings of the application. Soltani said he is a technical consultant for the Wall Street Journal's "What They Know" series on privacy.
"When companies make technically nuanced and perhaps … misleading statements, it puts me in the skin," said Soltani.
Facebook has not responded to several requests for comments.
