The ongoing saga of No Man's Sky has been fascinating to follow since the launch of the game in 2016. Designed as the ultimate sandbox before its release, the universe generated by the game failed to attract the players (myself included), and the backlash was quick. In the months that followed, the developer Hello Games continued to develop the game with massive updates of content, and the biggest still will arrive next week.
Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, announced: NEXT (unveiled in March) will arrive on PS4, PC, and (for the very first time) Xbox One on July 24th. As previously revealed, the update will include the long-awaited multiplayer that fans of the game claim – but that's not all.
The full trailer below highlights many changes and additions, but you can see longer list below:
New multiplayer mode:
- Team up with a small group of friends to explore the universe together or join travelers online
- Help your friends stay alive or at home survive
- Build a shelter or complex colonies to share with your team
- Fight like a pirate or winger in epic space battles with friends and enemies
- Race exocraft through weird strange grounds, creating running tracks and trails to share
- Looking at the planetary rings and improved spatial visuals that make the space more beautiful than ever
- Explore the greatly improved ground-planetary generation, ground textures , water and clouds that give life to the environment
- Enjoy many more details about ships, NPCs and buildings

The number of changing mechanics and features that are being added in NEXT are difficult to pack. head around. It almost looks like a new game, or at least an expansion on the size of the current game. The highlights are clearly the addition of multiplayer and the option to play the entire game from the point of view of the third person, but I am very happy to see how the game changes visually after the update.
