BERLIN – DECEMBER 13, 2018: Egypt is an "essential pillar of stability" in Africa, said Martin Jäger, German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, at a meeting in Paris on Wednesday. a meeting with the Egyptian ambassador in Berlin, Badr Abdel Ati.

Jäger and Abdel Ati met to follow up on the agreements signed during President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's recent visit to Germany. They discussed the convening of a ministerial meeting of the Joint Committee to further strengthen cooperation and coordination in international forums.

The German minister praised Sisi's vision on the country's domestic situation and the latest developments in relations between Egypt and Germany, quoted by Abdel Ati.

According to the Egyptian diplomat, Jäger is reported to have said that Berlin wants to strengthen cooperation with Cairo as Germany's main partner on the African continent.

The Egyptian ambassador added that he was looking for ways for the German minister to consolidate bilateral cooperation in Africa, particularly in light of the African Union Cairo presidency in 2019.

Abdel Ati also said that the agreements signed during Sisi's visit will be activated according to a calendar covering 2018 and 2019.
