How to use the Augmented Reality Measurement application in iOS 12

One of the new features of iOS 12 is an augmented reality app called Measure, designed by Apple to facilitate the measurement of various real-world objects using spatial sensing techniques 3D.

1. Open the application Measure
2. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen and move your iPhone in the room so that it can get the dimensions of various objects.

Haptic comments are included in the Measure application, so you'll feel little haptic tapping every time you set an anchor point, for a physical response. Haptic faucets are also included whenever the application detects an obvious stopping point for a measurement, such as the end of a wall.

To clear your anchor points and start again at any time, press the "Clear" button.

Once all your measurements are in place, press the white camera button to take a photo that displays all the measurements overlaid on the object you are measuring.

You can also tap the arrow of one of the measures to get a pop-up with the current readings that you can copy and paste into another application like Messages or Notes.

Automatic Measurement Detection

For some square shaped objects that the Measurement application detects, the detection of dimensions will be automatic. To get an automatic measurement, choose a square or rectangular object and hold the iPhone in front.

If you want to take an automatic measurement, you will see a yellow square that you can then press to get the dimensions. If automatic detection is not done, you will need to use the tap method to draw individual lines.

Precision

The accuracy of the Measure application depends largely on the accuracy of the location of the end points, so that there is room for error .

It's great for quick measurements to have an idea of ​​the size, but where precise measurements are needed, it's probably best to check with a physical measurement method.

Level Feature

In iOS 12, the Measure application also hosts the Level feature that allows you to use the iPhone to detect whether a surface is level. Before iOS 12, the level feature was in the Compass application, so this is not new, just moved.

To use it, tap the level part of the application, which is at the bottom. Hold the iPhone in portrait or landscape mode without a case and swing it on an object such as a photo frame to get a reading.
