The
Although not far from the bustling city center of Arusha, the dominant atmosphere is an old colonial estate surrounded by manicured gardens, birdsong and striking views of Mount Meru, the second highest mountain in Tanzania. after Kilimanjaro. Local activities include a tour of the coffee plantation and a (well-deserved) visit to the nearby Cultural Heritage Museum with its collections of tribal art and objects, sculptures and antiques.
The Scene
Once you are in the bush on safari, there is not much time to enjoy the comfort of the creatures, which is why Legendary Lodge is a great place to relax and catch up on sleep and personal organization before or after a long international flight pre- or post-safari.
The room
There are ten garden rooms (half-sections of villas) in the grounds, which create a home-like atmosphere, and which come with their own private terrace (ours had a direct view of Mount Meru) and a huge bedroom / living room with a four-poster bed. All have air conditioning, satellite TV and a mini bar, as well as a large bathroom / shower. The decor is colonial style. It's chic, with a retro feel, comfortable leather sofas, high ceilings and wooden beams. A desk is provided with free Wi-Fi. There are also two family houses with several rooms. All meals can be served in the room and the song of the cicadas at night sharpens the appetite of the African bush.
The service
The staff is friendly and always available or at the end of a room phone. My wife had to deal with a medical emergency during her stay. She was treated with great sensitivity and efficiency, which allowed her to receive the needed rehydration fluids at a daycare without having to spend a night in the hospital. The innkeeper's private nurse provided all the necessary advice and information, while arrangements and transfers to a clinic were organized with the minimum of fuss. After the emergency, my wife spoke very loud about the massage and the spa treatment at the end of our stay.
Food
Unless served in your room, meals are taken on the terrace of the main building overlooking the lawns and the garden. Fresh fruit dishes are a specialty for breakfast with English and continental options. The three-course dinners come with excellent fish and meat dishes (Chef Max's Chicken Curry is highly recommended). All products are of local origin and the seafood is fresh every morning.

The peace and quiet of the gardens and the charm of the old school of the Lodge.
Hated
I hate to say it, but … I hate to have chairs sunken under me when I'm sitting there.
The Verdict
A tropical oasis in the city that is often used as a dormitory at night on the way to the bush, but is worth much more.
